Are our children learning? Uwezo Uganda eighth learning assessment report 2019

Submitted by admin on
Abstract

This report provides findings from Uwezo’s eighth household-based assessment of children’s learning in Uganda, which was conducted between October 2018 and March 2019. The report monitors children’s acquisition of basic skills of literacy and numeracy in the same manner as previous reports, with a few changes of emphasis. On this occasion, we provide more details on grade repetition, pupil absenteeism and disabilities. We also give attention to children’s levels of learning by age, in addition to grade. We present some new evidence about the effects of home language on local language learning. In the school survey, closer attention is given to teacher presence and activity, textbook provision and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
