What was the state of the EMIS in Latin America and the Caribbean when the COVID-19 pandemic hit education systems? What changes did they undergo to respond to the emerging needs in this context? What were the main conditions for the sustainability of the changes faced by the EMIS of the region, and what prospects for continuity can be projected? In order to address these questions, this publication, presented in the Regional Forum on Education Policy in 2021, draws on UNESCO’s monitoring of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, as well as on the experience and information systematized within the Community of Data Specialists for Educational Planning, a community of practice launched in July 2021 by the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) and the Latin America Office of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) of UNESCO.
