Transforming education in Africa: an evidence-based overview and recommendations for long-term improvements

Abstract

This report, which has been developed through a partnership between the African Union Commission and UNICEF, aims to: 1) Track the progress that African nations have made in education, especially in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) goals; 2) Identify the challenges that African leaders and decision makers face in providing inclusive quality education, especially those related to the COVID-19 pandemic; and 3) Make recommendations that could help accelerate progress in education, and prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from eroding the gains that have been made to date.
