Implementation of decentralization in education in Pakistan: framework, status and the way forward

Abstract

The authors give an extensive account of the implementation of decentralization policies in Pakistan, with special regards to the education sector. Leading a document-based study, it is suggested that in spite of the process of decentralisation and transfer of power, most of the key decision-making power has remained in the hands of the federal government. They call for the furthering of decentralization in favor of the district level, especially regarding schools.
