Mapping progress in learning outcomes and access to secondary education in Brazil

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to understand the link between education expansion and learning outcomes and to analyze policies that have led to better outcomes and more expansion in specific states. Data from the Ministry of Education from 2005 to 2011 is used to conduct a quantitative analysis to map out access to education and learning outcomes of students in the eighth grade of primary school and in the third grade of secondary education in public schools in Brazil.
