Abstract
This paper discusses various aspects of performance assessments, including their use in educational systems in other countries, their impact on the type of thinking and reasoning skills that are used by students, technical advances that support their use; alignment among curriculum, instruction and assessment; and evidence that supports the use of performance assessments in both instruction and assessment to improve student learning for all students.
