This synthesis report was prepared in the framework of a regional thematic study conducted by UNESCO Bangkok in collaboration with UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training. The report focuses on expanding technical and vocational education and training (TVET) at the secondary education level as a way of addressing skills mismatches and increasing employability of young people in the Asia-Pacific. It is based on five country cases (China, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan) that present different approaches to vocationalisation of secondary education. It introduces vocationalisation concepts and gives general policy recommendations that need to be considered before expanding TVET at secondary level.
